Damnoen Saduak Floating Market

📍 Address: Damnoen Saduak District, Ratchaburi Province

⏰ Opening hours: Daily, 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM

🚕 How to reach: Hire a private car or taxi. You can also take a bus to Damnoen Saduak from Southern Bus Terminal in Bangkok

Damnoen Saduak Floating Market is one of the most famous floating markets around Bangkok, often featured in travel brochures and TV shows. It’s located about 100 kilometers southwest of the city and is best reached early in the morning to avoid traffic and heat.

The market is busy with small wooden boats selling fruits, drinks, noodles, and souvenirs. You can hire a paddle boat to explore the canals or walk along the side pathways to take photos and sample street food. This market is often crowded, but it offers a wide variety of items and plenty of photo opportunities. It’s a common stop on many day tours and is ideal for first-time visitors who want to see a large, active floating market in full swing.

Amphawa Floating Market

📍 Address: Amphawa District, Samut Songkhram Province

⏰ Opening hours: Friday to Sunday, 12:00 PM – 8:00 PM

🚕 How to Reach: Travel by minivan from Bangkok’s Southern Bus Terminal or book a tour. Taxi service is also available.

Located about 80 kilometers southwest of Bangkok, Amphawa Floating Market is another well-known destination. It stands out among the floating markets around Bangkok because of its evening hours and relaxed atmosphere. Unlike Damnoen Saduak, this market opens later in the day, making it suitable for those who don’t want to start early.

Amphawa is packed with food vendors, many of whom grill seafood right on their boats. You’ll find everything from squid and prawns to desserts and herbal drinks. One popular activity here is taking a boat tour in the evening to watch fireflies along the riverbanks. As one of the best floating markets in Thailand, Amphawa is perfect for a half-day visit with a different vibe than the morning markets.

Taling Chan Floating Market

📍 Address: Taling Chan District, Bangkok

⏰ Opening hours: Saturday and Sunday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM

🚕 How to reach: The easiest way is by taxi from central Bangkok. For a more economical option, take the BTS Skytrain to Bang Wa station, then a taxi or motorbike to the market.

Taling Chan is one of the smaller floating markets, but it’s easy to reach since it’s located within the city, only 12 km from downtown Bangkok. This market is especially popular with locals, so it has a more relaxed pace and affordable prices.

The main area consists of a mix of floating and land-based stalls. You can sit by the water and enjoy grilled fish, noodles, and fresh fruit. Short boat tours are available at the market, giving you a chance to explore the nearby canals. It’s a great option if you don’t have much time but still want to include a floating market in your trip. Many people include this in their weekend plans without needing to leave Bangkok.

Bang Nam Phueng Floating Market

📍 Address: Phra Pradaeng District, Samut Prakan Province

⏰ Opening hours: Saturday and Sunday, 7:00 AM – 4:00 PM

🚕 How to reach:Take the BTS Skytrain to Bang Na station, then a taxi to Bang Nam Phueng Pier, followed by a short ferry ride across the river. Taxi is also an option from central Bangkok.

This market is located in an area often called the “green lung” of Bangkok. Bang Nam Phueng is one of the more peaceful floating markets around Bangkok, and it’s surrounded by trees and narrow canals. The market is mainly run by local residents, and most of the products are homemade or grown nearby.

Food is the main focus here. You’ll find Thai desserts, herbal drinks, fried snacks, and regional dishes at reasonable prices. There are also shops selling plants, local crafts, and household goods. This is a good spot for a slower-paced visit, especially if you want to take a walk or bike ride around the neighborhood after exploring the market.

Khlong Lat Mayom Floating Market

📍 Address: Bang Ramat Subdistrict, Taling Chan, Bangkok

⏰ Opening hours: Saturday and Sunday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM

🚕 How to reach: Take the BTS Skytrain to Bang Wa station, then a taxi or motorbike to the market. Taxi is also an option from central Bangkok.

Khlong Lat Mayom is another market located within Bangkok and is often included in lists of the best floating markets in Thailand. It is slightly larger than Taling Chan and offers a greater variety of food and boat tours.

The market is divided into zones, with vendors selling food, snacks, and fresh produce both on land and along the canal. It’s also one of the floating markets around Bangkok where you can take a longer boat tour to nearby orchards and temples. Many visitors enjoy the mix of activities and the option to sit and eat by the water.

This market is ideal for travelers who want to avoid long travel times and prefer something close to the city center. It’s family-friendly and offers a more local experience without the large crowds found at Damnoen Saduak or Amphawa.

Tips for visiting floating markets

Before heading out to explore the floating markets around Bangkok, here are some practical tips to help make your visit smoother:

  • Arrive early: Most markets are busiest by mid-morning. Going early means cooler temperatures, fewer crowds, and fresher food.

  • Bring cash: Many vendors only accept cash, especially at smaller stalls.

  • Dress comfortably: Wear light clothes, comfortable shoes, and a hat or sunglasses if you plan to spend time outside.

  • Try local food: Floating markets are known for their variety of dishes. Take the opportunity to try something new, such as grilled river prawns, coconut pancakes, boat noodles, mango sticky rice, or spicy papaya salad.

  • Take a boat tour: This is the best way to experience the setting of the market. Even a short tour adds to the experience.

Exploring the floating markets around Bangkok can be a great way to experience daily life and enjoy a wide range of local food in a unique setting. Each market offers something different – lively boat traffic, weekend-only atmosphere, or peaceful surroundings just outside the city. With the right planning, visiting one or more of these markets can add real value to your Bangkok journey. If you’re planning your next trip to Thailand, don’t miss the chance to explore one of these markets.

We just had a northern Vietnam tour with Hanoi Voyages, touring Van Ho, Pu Luong, Ninh Binh, we had a superb time. Sophie c/o with Hanoi Voyages was so helpful, gave us so many valuable advice and make sure everything goes smoothly from the beginning of the planning till we return to our home country. The driver Mr Dong, the guide Mr Quach Tan (also guide from minority village) are amazing. We cant wait to visit Vietnam again with them.

I wanted to travel to Halong Bay, Vietnam and the major attractions in Thailand and looked to find a competent travel agency to plan and execute the trip. Hanoi voyages was what my top choice from my research. End to end they customized my trip based on my unique requirements and helped with travel, tourist guides and accommodations. The hotels were really good in each of the four cities I stayed in and the guides took care of me extremely well. The trip went off without a glitch, thanks to Hanoi voyages. I would strongly recommend them for anyone from the US traveling to Vietnam and Thailand.
