Let Vietnam cultural tours reveal the true heart of the country – with Hanoi Voyages, every moment becomes a meaningful connection.

Traveling to Vietnam: Best place for cultural immersion

If you are passionate about culture, welcome to Vietnam!

  • Remarkable cultural heritage: Home to multiple UNESCO World Heritage Sites like Hoi An Ancient Town, the Imperial City of Hue and the Space of Gong Culture in the Central Highlands
  • 54 ethnic groups with unique traditions: Each group brings its own language, clothing, festivals and way of life
  • Living culture in everyday life: Traditional markets, communal houses, ancestral worship and rural crafts are not just preserved – they’re actively lived and practiced
  • Hands-on experiences for deeper connection: Activities like pottery making, folk dancing, calligraphy, or farming offer more than just observation – they create meaningful involvement

* Best to visit for cultural exploration

Since many Vietnam cultural tours involve outdoor activities – like village visits, heritage site walks and traditional festivals – the ideal time to visit is during the dry season (October to April). The weather is cooler, skies are clearer and your cultural experience will be more enjoyable and uninterrupted.

Top authentic experiences for Vietnam cultural tours

Cultural holidays in Vietnam bring you closer to the country’s soul – through local traditions, heritage sites and authentic daily life. Here are top experiences to enrich your Vietnam cultural tours.

Explore the Old Quarter and traditional villages

The Hanoi Old Quarter is a cultural treasure trove where history, daily life and traditional crafts blend seamlessly. Wandering through its narrow streets, you’ll find century-old houses, ancient temples and street vendors selling everything from local snacks to handmade crafts.

Nearby, don’t miss iconic cultural sites like the Temple of Literature – Vietnam’s first university – and One Pillar Pagoda, a symbol of Buddhist heritage. At the Ho Chi Minh Complex, visitors can explore Vietnam’s modern history while still sensing strong cultural roots.

For a deeper look into traditional lifestyles, venture just outside the city center to explore more cultural activities Vietnam

  • In Bat Trang Ceramic Village, you can try your hand at pottery-making with local artisans.
  • At Quang Phu Cau incense village, colorful bundles of handmade incense create a vibrant cultural scene – and a great photo spot.
  • For a step back in time, head to Duong Lam Ancient Village, where centuries-old houses, village gates and banyan trees offer a rare glimpse into the rural architecture and way of life preserved through generations.

Meet ethnic minorities in Northern Vietnam

Head to Sapa or Ha Giang to explore the rich cultural tapestry of Vietnam’s northern highlands. Trek through breathtaking rice terraces, visit traditional stilt houses and stay with local families of the H’Mông, Dao, or Tay ethnic groups.

Don’t miss the colorful weekly markets like Bac Ha or Dong Van, where people gather in traditional attire to trade goods and socialize. These immersive experiences are among the most authentic cultural activities Vietnam offers – connecting you to age-old traditions and genuine rural life.

Watch cultural shows across the country

Water puppet show

One of the most highlights of Vietnam cultural tour packages is experiencing its vibrant cultural performances.

  • In Hanoi, don’t miss the famous Water Puppet Show, a centuries-old art form performed on a water stage with live music. For a more theatrical experience, shows like My Village (Làng Tôi) and The Quintessence of Tonkin are best for you.
  • In Hue, royal court music (Nhã nhạc cung đình) offers a glimpse into the refined cultural world of Vietnam’s imperial past, often performed in historic venues.
  • Ho Chi Minh City is home to modern cultural productions such as A O Show, Teh Dar and The Mist – combining bamboo circus, storytelling and contemporary choreography rooted in Vietnamese tradition.

Discover Hue – The Imperial City

As a highlight of many Vietnam cultural tours packages, Hue brings history, architecture and cultural elegance together in one destination. Explore the Imperial Citadel, visit grand royal tombs and cruise along the Perfume River to soak in the city’s historic charm. Don’t miss to try your hand at imperial-style cooking or enjoy a traditional meal rooted in royal recipes.

Step into the charm of Hoi An,  a highlight in Vietnam cultural tours packages, offering an immersive, peaceful and hands-on cultural journey.

  • Stroll through the Ancient Town: Wander cobbled streets lined with yellow walls, old houses and Chinese temples – a UNESCO heritage site full of photo-worthy corners.
  • Join a lantern-making workshop: Learn the traditional art of crafting silk lanterns with local artisans and take home your handmade piece as a cultural keepsake.
  • Take a Vietnamese cooking class: Visit the local market, learn about native ingredients and cook classic dishes like cao lầu or bánh xèo under the guidance of local chefs.
  • Enjoy the full-moon lantern festival: On certain nights, the town turns off electric lights and glows under thousands of lanterns. Float a candle-lit paper lantern on the Hoai River for a wishful moment.
  • Cycle to traditional villages nearby: Ride to Tra Que herb village or Thanh Ha pottery village to experience rural life, farming and traditional crafts firsthand.

Cruise the Mekong Delta – Floating culture and rural life

In the Mekong Delta, life flows with the river. A cultural journey here offers more than scenic boat rides – it’s a chance to witness a way of life deeply tied to nature and tradition. Explore bustling floating markets like Cai Rang, visit local workshops where villagers make rice paper, coconut candy and traditional handicrafts and enjoy warm conversations over home-cooked meals.

Travelers can also enjoy folk music performances, stroll through tropical fruit orchards and experience the rhythm of rural life. These immersive activities are often featured in thoughtfully designed Vietnam cultural tours packages, giving you a genuine taste of southern Vietnam’s rich heritage.

Just outside Ho Chi Minh City lies the Cu Chi Tunnels, an extraordinary underground network used by Vietnamese soldiers during the war. Visiting this site offers powerful insights into the resilience, ingenuity and daily life of people during wartime.

Walk through narrow tunnels, see hidden trapdoors and explore underground kitchens and command centers – all preserved as part of living history. This experience adds a unique historical layer to your cultural holidays in Vietnam, especially for travelers interested in the country’s modern past and its impact on today’s identity.

Join Vietnamese festivals for cultural experiences

Cultural holidays in Vietnam offer travelers the chance to witness vibrant local traditions, spiritual rituals and joyful community gatherings. From north to south, Vietnamese festivals are rich in tradition, color and community spirit – offering a rare chance to witness cultural rituals in their authentic settings.

  • Visit Vietnam during Tet (Lunar New Year) to see families preparing altars, offering ancestral prayers and celebrating with special food and decorations.
  • In Hoi An, join the Mid-Autumn Festival or the Lantern Festival, where the old town glows under hundreds of handmade lanterns.

We just had a northern Vietnam tour with Hanoi Voyages, touring Van Ho, Pu Luong, Ninh Binh, we had a superb time. Sophie c/o with Hanoi Voyages was so helpful, gave us so many valuable advice and make sure everything goes smoothly from the beginning of the planning till we return to our home country. The driver Mr Dong, the guide Mr Quach Tan (also guide from minority village) are amazing. We cant wait to visit Vietnam again with them.

I wanted to travel to Halong Bay, Vietnam and the major attractions in Thailand and looked to find a competent travel agency to plan and execute the trip. Hanoi voyages was what my top choice from my research. End to end they customized my trip based on my unique requirements and helped with travel, tourist guides and accommodations. The hotels were really good in each of the four cities I stayed in and the guides took care of me extremely well. The trip went off without a glitch, thanks to Hanoi voyages. I would strongly recommend them for anyone from the US traveling to Vietnam and Thailand.
