Ho Chi Minh City has claimed the top spot in Time Out’s global ranking of street food cities for 2026, overtaking established culinary hubs in Southeast Asia such as Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur and Singapore for the first time. Time Out noted that the appeal of freshly cooked street food is a major reason travelers seek out culinary experiences abroad and the Vietnamese metropolis secured the win with a 63% approval rating.
The magazine highlighted that Ho Chi Minh City’s achievement stands out especially given it is a megacity home to six Michelin-starred restaurants, including Anan Saigon, known for reimagining Vietnamese street food as fine dining. Even so, rather than pointing visitors toward fine dining, Time Out suggested exploring the busy lanes around Ben Thanh market, where diners can enjoy everything from a hot bowl of Pho on a plastic stool to Banh Mi grabbed on the go.
