With its long beaches, warm waters and tropical landscapes, Phu Quoc is well suited to a short stay. Two days are enough to explore some of the island’s main sights while leaving time to enjoy the coast at a slower pace. Beyond the beaches, you can spend your time exploring the surrounding islands by boat, snorkelling in clear waters, visiting local sites or heading inland to discover the island’s forested landscapes. Evenings offer a different side of Phu Quoc, with sunset spots, local restaurants and activities after dark.
This guide to Phu Quoc in 2 days brings together our suggested places and activities for a first visit, with two ready-made day programmes to help you organise your time. The itinerary is flexible, so you can adjust it according to your interests, the weather and where you are staying.
What to do in Phu Quoc on your free days
If your schedule has a gap or two, Phu Quoc is a very easy place to fill them. The first option is simply to do nothing: settle on a sunlounger facing the Gulf of Thailand and let the day drift by. The second is to book one of the island’s many paid activities. Here are some ideas to get you started.
Excursions and boat trips

- Jeep tour of the north with starfish and a seafood lunch. Head up the northern coast by jeep to Rach Vem beach, where thousands of starfish dot the shallows. The outing ends with a seafood lunch served on a floating raft.
- Boat trip around 3 islands. Sail out to a small marine paradise, slip on a mask and snorkel to explore the coral reefs and their colourful fish. Lunch is included on board.
- Speedboat trip around 4 islands and 2 coral reefs. For something a little faster, hop on a speedboat and swim among the tropical fish with mask and snorkel.
Themed day programmes

- Between jade sea, traditions and memory. A day in the south that mixes island-hopping with history and local culture
- North Phu Quoc, from sacred temples to VinWonders Phu Quoc thrills. A northern loop that moves from fishing-village temples to one of Vietnam’s biggest theme parks.
An evening show at Sunset Town
For a memorable night out, head to Sunset Town for a spectacular waterfront performance. You can choose the Symphony of the Sea show or the Kiss of the Sea show. You can also combine the two, with an optional buffet dinner on the side.
Day 1: Exploring southern Phu Quoc
This first day focuses on the southern part of Phu Quoc, combining a morning on the water with visits that introduce some of the island’s local products and history. It is a good option if you want to make the most of the coast while also seeing a few places beyond the beaches.
Morning: pearls, An Thoi port and four islands

Start the morning with a visit to a local pearl farm. Phu Quoc has a long association with pearl cultivation, and a visit gives you an introduction to how oysters are raised and how pearls are collected and prepared.
Continue to An Thoi port, the main departure point for many excursions around the southern islands. From here, take a boat or canoe trip to several smaller islands, with time for swimming, snorkelling and relaxing along the way.
The island-hopping route can include:

- May Rut 1: a short stop to enjoy the coastal scenery and take in the views from the water.
- May Rut 2: a good place to snorkel and explore the shallow waters around the island.
- Dam Ngang (Ram Ri or Gam Ghi): time for swimming, relaxing on the beach and trying some of the activities available on the island.
- Mong Tay: a final stop for lunch, with time to eat and enjoy the quieter setting before returning to the mainland.
The exact order of the stops can vary depending on sea conditions and the boat operator.
Afternoon: history and the flavours of Phu Quoc

Back on the main island, continue with a visit to Phu Quoc Prison, also known as Coconut Tree Prison. The former prison site recalls a difficult period in Vietnam’s history and provides a very different perspective on the island. Allow some time to walk through the site and read the information before continuing the itinerary.
The next stop introduces one of Phu Quoc’s best-known local products: nuoc mam, or Vietnamese fish sauce. At a traditional fish sauce factory, you can learn how anchovies are fermented with salt in large wooden barrels and how the finished sauce is produced. This visit adds a local food dimension to the day and helps explain why Phu Quoc fish sauce is so well known in Vietnam.
Sunset: a relaxed end to the day

Finish the day at Sanato Beach Club, where you can settle by the sea and watch the sunset. After a full day of island-hopping and sightseeing, this is a chance to slow down before heading back to your hotel. If you prefer a quieter evening, you can also choose another west-coast beach or sunset spot according to where you are staying. Beach Club at sunset. Watch the sun slip into the sea, enjoy a relaxed moment by the water, then return to your hotel.
Day 2: Exploring northern Phu Quoc
The second day takes you to the northern part of Phu Quoc, where cultural sites, tropical landscapes and large-scale entertainment parks come together. The morning is dedicated to temples, a fishing village and the island’s northern coastline, while the afternoon offers several options for families and travellers looking for more active entertainment.
Morning: temples, forest and Ganh Dau
Start in Duong Dong with a visit to Cau Temple, an important place of worship for local fishermen. The small temple stands near the sea and is associated with the island’s fishing traditions.
From Duong Dong, continue north through the tropical landscapes of Phu Quoc National Park towards Ganh Dau, a quieter coastal area near the northwestern tip of the island.
In Ganh Dau, stop at the Nguyen Trung Truc Temple, dedicated to the Vietnamese resistance leader Nguyen Trung Truc. From the nearby coast, you can enjoy views across the sea towards Cambodia on clear days. For lunch, you can stay in Ganh Dau and try local seafood, or head directly to VinWonders if you prefer to maximise your time in the park.
Afternoon: choose your experience at VinWonders
Spend the afternoon at VinWonders Phu Quoc, a large-scale amusement and water park in the north of the island. Rather than trying to visit every attraction in a few hours, it is worth choosing the areas that best match your interests.
- Adventure World: a good choice for thrill seekers, with roller coasters and other high-intensity rides.
- Typhoon World: a water park with pools, slides and water-based attractions, particularly suitable for a hot afternoon.
- Copenhagen and Fire Phoenix Square: a European-inspired area with themed streets, games and attractions.
- Fantasy World: designed with families in mind, with themed rides and attractions inspired by well-known stories and adventure worlds.
- Viking-themed areas: attractions inspired by Viking culture, including river rides and adventure experiences.
- The Shell and Atlantic Square: an aquarium area featuring jellyfish, colourful fish, penguins, sharks and other marine life.
You do not need to cover every zone during a single afternoon. If your main interest is water activities, for example, Typhoon World can take up much of your visit, while families with younger children may prefer the gentler attractions in the themed areas.
An alternative: Vinpearl Safari

If amusement parks are not your priority, consider replacing VinWonders with Vinpearl Safari Phu Quoc. Located in the north of the island, the safari park covers around 380 hectares and is home to a wide range of animals, including giraffes, rhinoceroses, Bengal tigers, flamingos and lemurs.
The park combines open-air animal areas with more traditional zoo-style enclosures and offers a different way to spend an afternoon in northern Phu Quoc. It is particularly suitable for families or travellers interested in wildlife.
Practical tip: With only two days on the island, it is difficult to visit both VinWonders and the safari comfortably in the same afternoon. Choose one according to your interests rather than trying to fit both into a tight schedule.
Two days in Phu Quoc give you enough time to explore some of the island’s main highlights, but there is much more to discover if you stay longer. The south is well suited to boat trips, snorkelling and beach time, while other parts of the island offer opportunities to explore local food, markets, fishing villages and everyday island life.
