Is 7 days enough to visit Vietnam?

Not quite!

7 days in Vietnam can give you a wonderful taste of the country, but it’s hardly enough to experience everything this diverse land has to offer. Vietnam stretches over 1,600 kilometers, with each region offering its own unique landscapes, cuisine and traditions – the misty mountains of the North, the ancient towns and beaches of the Central coast and the vibrant energy of the South. Trying to see it all in just one week often means rushing through and missing the deeper stories hidden within local life.

Instead of squeezing too much into a short trip, Hanoi Voyages helps travelers enjoy a smoother and more fulfilling journey. We have crafted exclusive 7-day itineraries for Northern, Central and Southern Vietnam. Let’s explore the details below and find your perfect journey!

Tips for planning your Vietnam itinerary 7 days

Planning a Vietnam itinerary 7 days can be exciting but also overwhelming, especially if it’s your first time visiting this vibrant country. To make your trip smooth and unforgettable, here are some essential tips for a perfect 7 days in Vietnam.

Before traveling, make sure to check your visa requirements. Vietnam offers various visa options depending on your nationality, including e-visas and visa-on-arrival. Apply well in advance to avoid delays or complications. Knowing your visa status ensures a smooth start to your 7 days in Vietnam journey.

Choose the best time to visit

The weather in Vietnam varies greatly from north to south, so planning your trip according to the season is crucial.

  • Northern Vietnam: Best from September to November or March to April, with mild temperatures and minimal rain.
  • Central Vietnam: February to May offers sunny skies and fewer storms.
  • Southern Vietnam: December to April is dry and ideal for exploring the Mekong Delta and Ho Chi Minh City.

Choosing the right season ensures you enjoy your 7 days in Vietnam without weather disruptions.

Getting around safely

Motorbike in Vietnam

Vietnamese traffic can be fast and chaotic, especially in cities like Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. Here are some practical tips:

  • Crossing the street: Always walk slowly and steadily; motorbikes and cars will move around you. Don’t run or hesitate too much, as consistent movement helps drivers predict your path.
  • Motorbike traffic: Watch carefully before crossing or turning. Consider using pedestrian bridges where available.
  • Ride-hailing apps: Grab, Be, Xanh SM are widely used for motorbikes and cars, offering a safer and convenient option to get around.
  • Traffic rules: Helmets are mandatory for motorbike riders and always keep to the right lane.

Understanding transportation and traffic patterns will make your one week in Vietnam smooth and enjoyable while keeping you safe.

Respect local culture

Vietnamese culture is rich and diverse. To make the most of your Vietnam itinerary 7 days, remember to:

  • Dress modestly when visiting temples and religious sites.
  • Remove shoes when entering homes or sacred places.

We just had a northern Vietnam tour with Hanoi Voyages, touring Van Ho, Pu Luong, Ninh Binh, we had a superb time. Sophie c/o with Hanoi Voyages was so helpful, gave us so many valuable advice and make sure everything goes smoothly from the beginning of the planning till we return to our home country. The driver Mr Dong, the guide Mr Quach Tan (also guide from minority village) are amazing. We cant wait to visit Vietnam again with them.
