Two scenic rail journeys in central Vietnam have been named among the world’s 20 best train trips for 2026 in Condé Nast Traveler’s Readers’ Choice Awards, highlighting the country’s growing appeal as a destination for scenic rail travel.
The Hue–Da Nang Heritage Train ranked 10th, while The Vietage by Anantara came in 14th. Both journeys offer travelers a different way to explore central Vietnam, combining striking landscapes with cultural experiences and, in the case of The Vietage, premium onboard dining.
The ranking forms part of the magazine’s 39th annual Readers’ Choice Awards. It recognizes rail journeys that allow travelers to enjoy the scenery at a slower pace, passing through rural landscapes, local villages and coastal regions along the way.
Hue–Da Nang Heritage Train ranks 10th

Launched in early 2024, the Hue–Da Nang Heritage Train connects two of central Vietnam’s most popular destinations on a journey of approximately three hours. The route crosses the Hai Van Pass and offers views of Lang Co Bay and the Tam Giang–Cau Hai Lagoon.

Beyond the scenery, the train introduces passengers to local culture through two community carriages featuring traditional artistic performances. Quieter carriages are also available for those who prefer to relax and enjoy the views throughout the journey.
The route provides an alternative to road transfers between Hue and Da Nang, turning the journey itself into an opportunity to discover the region’s landscapes and cultural heritage.
The Vietage by Anantara ranks 14th

The Vietage by Anantara earned 14th place for its luxury rail experience along Vietnam’s central coast. Operating between Da Nang, Quy Nhon and Nha Trang, the train offers views of rice paddies, rural villages and coastal mountain ranges.
On the approximately six-hour journey between Da Nang and Quy Nhon, passengers can enjoy a three-course meal combining Vietnamese flavours with French culinary influences. The Quy Nhon–Nha Trang route features afternoon tea accompanied by local specialties, Vietnamese cheese and premium teas.
With its intimate setting, attentive service and carefully curated dining, The Vietage offers a more exclusive way to experience central Vietnam by rail.
Rail travel adds a new dimension to Vietnam’s tourism offering
The inclusion of two Vietnamese journeys in the 2026 ranking brings international attention to the country’s railway network and the landscapes along its central coast. For travelers looking beyond conventional road itineraries, these routes offer opportunities to combine regional sightseeing, cultural discovery and distinctive travel experiences.
Vietnam shares the list with destinations known for their scenic railways, including Switzerland’s Jungfrau Railway, as well as train journeys across Central Asia, Australia, the United States and Canada.
