Vietnam’s Phu Quoc Island has earned a spot on Expedia’s list of the world’s 10 standout islands for 2026, recognized as an ideal destination for travelers seeking a luxury getaway without the luxury price tag.

According to Vietnam’s National Tourism Information Center, the ranking compiled by Expedia, one of the world’s leading online travel platforms with a strong presence across Europe and North America is based on flight search data. It highlights islands that have seen the sharpest rise in traveler interest, spanning everything from romantic hideaways to laid-back retreats across Europe and Asia.
Phu Quoc landed at number 9 on the list, singled out as a top choice for travelers looking to enjoy an upscale escape at a competitive cost. Expedia pointed to the island’s growing lineup of quality resorts, steadily improving services and affordable pricing as reasons it’s fast becoming one of Southeast Asia’s premier high-end beach destinations.
The 2026 list reflects a broader shift in traveler behavior, with more people seeking out lesser-known islands alongside established favorites. Joining Phu Quoc on the list are Saint Lucia, Porto Santo in Portugal, Praslin in the Seychelles, Syros in Greece, Norway’s Lofoten Islands, Palawan in the Philippines, Culebra in Puerto Rico, Sanibel in the United States and Fiji.

Phu Quoc is known for its powder-white beaches, crystal-clear turquoise waters, rich marine ecosystems, and year-round mild climate. Beyond its natural scenery, the island draws visitors with distinctive experiences such as exploring Phu Quoc National Park, visiting traditional craft villages, learning about local pearl farming, sampling fresh seafood, unwinding at beachfront resorts, and taking in the island’s large-scale entertainment complexes.
The island continues to cement its place as one of Vietnam’s leading beach and island getaways, helped by an expanding network of domestic and international flights, a visa-exemption policy for international visitors and a wide range of accommodations and services catering to different types of travelers.
Vietnam’s National Tourism Administration noted that in recent years, Phu Quoc has repeatedly been honored by international organizations and respected travel publications for its unspoiled landscapes, stunning beaches, diverse ecosystems and its growing roster of world-class resorts and entertainment venues.
Building on this string of international accolades, Phu Quoc’s appearance on Expedia’s 2026 list further underscores its appeal to travelers around the world and signals the rising competitiveness of Vietnam’s beach tourism sector on the global stage, as the country works to attract visitors seeking authentic, high-quality, and memorable experiences.
